As a cloud based point of sale system, internet is critical to the smooth operation of our software. Hence we are providing base guidelines on best practices to make sure your On The Fly POS experience soars!
Minimum Speeds
We recommend at minimum 10 Mbps down and 7 Mbps up with 80ms between pings for optimal performance. With more devices comes more demands. Therefore set ups involving 5 or more stations, please consult us on additional recommendations.
Modems/Routers/Switches
The modem is provided to you by your internet service provider (ISP). However, we highly recommend you don't run your system through the modem. These modems can be finicky at times. You can run On The Fly off of it but we do not recommend it.
We have a list of recommended routers and switches that we love using. You are free to make your choices but understand that the more you venture the more potential limits we can offer in support. Below is a list of recommended devices.
Finally, we are happy to provide wireless router/modem services as well. Please contact your sales team to discuss options.
Connections
Standard rule - wired is always better. Our hardware partners most work wirelessly or have wireless/4G options and work wonderfully but nothing beats the stability of a wired connection when done right. Aside from our routers and switches, you should use CAT6 cables so you get all the speed the internet has to offer.
Never share networks with neighbors. Never share the network you run your POS terminals with your customer. You can create a separate network for customers to use run off the ISP's modem (not our router/switches) but we highly recommend you limit it to no more than 10 mbps up and down to make sure you have enough bandwidth for your business needs.
